Leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about choosing to lead anyway.

This book explores what it means to show up with courage when the future is uncertain, systems are shifting, and the stakes are high.

Leading With Courage in Times of Change

Leadership extends beyond the office walls. And having courage to lead isn’t about having all the answers—It’s about showing up with conviction, even when uncertainty reigns. Together we will explore what it takes to lead in times of transformation, disruption, and systemic change. True leadership means being afraid… and doing it anyway. It’s speaking up, standing up, and acting in service of the greater good—not just a privileged few.

Key Themes & Questions the Book Could Address:

  • What does courage at work look like? It’s not about bravado, but about conviction, humility, and acting despite fear.

  • How do leaders navigate fear and uncertainty? Tools for resilience, emotional intelligence, and staying grounded when everything feels unstable.

  • When is it time to challenge the status quo? Ethical influence, responsible disruption, and the risks and rewards of speaking up.

  • How do we build trust and stability in an unsteady world? Psychological safety, inclusion, and creating workplaces that support all.

  • What does it mean to lead “for the good of all” in practice? Balancing integrity with adaptability, collective well-being with business strategy.

Assumptions about publishing

  • What's patently false about this statement is that it doesn't take into account how authors have a unique opportunity to accelerate their careers by writing a book. Writing provides you with three things: a chance to develop and hone your ideas; a chance to build a new pathway to find new clients; and an inexpensive way for readers to connect with your thought leadership.

What's also true is that the average writer makes between $5000 and $20,000 from sales on each book they publish. But traditional publishers don't take on books that are projected to sell at that level.

  • If you write it, people will not be banging on your door. Every book has to be unique; it has to fill a gap in the market. Don't rush it. Do your research. More than anything, read other books and find the place where you can add to the mix, not repeat the same old ideas.

  • What's true is that traditional publishers will give you an advance if you use an agent to pitch your book to them. Using a hybrid or self-publishing model does cost money, but the difference is usually about timing to publish. Traditional books take 2-3 years to release AFTER your agent sells your idea to a publisher. The biggest advantage of hybrid or self-publishing is time to release. Do the math and figure out what works best for your individual goals.

  • This can be true for some bestselling authors, but by and large authors (even traditionally published ones) will make their own arrangements for readings, and they'll pay their own way if they do. Book tours are a thing of the past, even if television shows continue to pretend they exist.

  • Anyone can get to bestselling status on Amazon. One in a 100,000 books will ever make it to the NYT bestseller list. These are very different goals, and have very different writing, editing, and publishing pathways. Think hard about how you're representing yourself and your book to the world, and what aligns with your values.

  • First-time authors overfocus on imagery and under focus on content. Trust the experts in book design. They know what works in the marketplace and in terms of design. Chances are, as an author, you do not have experience about what makes book jackets sell online or in a store.

  • There’s a saying in the industry that if your book is for everyone, it isn’t for anyone. Whether you’re self-publishing or trying to get a traditional publisher, you need to narrow down your targeted readers so that your marketing efforts are manageable and viable.

  • No matter how you publish, you won’t get far if your grammar is atrocious.

Publishing editors are focused on developmental aspects of your book, and if it’s riddled with errors, you probably won’t get past the submission stage. You want to present your work in the most professional way possible, and that includes showing an understanding of the English language.

Don't even bother sending in an AI-penned book to a publisher. Trust us, we can tell. And there are massive legal copyright issues in accepting an AI-written book for publication. We don't want to step in that mire. Sure, use AI to help you organize your ideas if you have to, but write it yourself.
